The 3 Costly Mistakes Most Women Make When Trying to Get Paid to Speak (and How to Avoid Them)
There’s something powerful about using your voice. Sharing your story. Stepping on a stage and knowing you’re meant to be there.
And yet, I see so many incredible women missing the mark when it comes to speaking and getting paid for it.
It’s not because they lack talent or heart. It’s not because their story isn’t inspiring enough. It’s because they’re unknowingly making some very common (and costly) mistakes that keep them stuck as the “best-kept secret” rather than the sought-after speaker they’re meant to be.
Let’s talk about it — with compassion, honesty, and the tools to shift this for good.
Mistake #1: Confusing Messaging = Missed Impact
You’ve lived through something that could inspire and transform others. But when you share your message, it lacks clarity.
Why? Because you haven’t fully owned the transformation you offer.
This is something I see all the time. Women step onto stages with passion but not precision. Their message is powerful but scattered. The result? A confused audience and a lost opportunity to make a lasting impact.
Here’s the truth: Clarity is confidence. When you understand your message, your audience does too. And that’s when you start to magnetise the right people and the right stages.
Mistake #2: No Aligned Offer = No Momentum
You give a great talk. People are moved. You get compliments after.
But then… crickets. No one follows up. No one buys. Nothing happens next.
The missing piece? A clear, aligned offer.
Speaking is not just about visibility — it’s about guiding people into a transformation beyond the talk. If you don’t have a way for people to continue the journey with you, you’re missing out on the deeper impact (and income) your talk could be creating.
And let’s be honest, you didn’t get into this just to be inspirational. You want to create real change. That requires a clear next step.
Mistake #3: Not Speaking Consistently = Staying Invisible
Another mistake I see far too often: not speaking enough.
Maybe you’ve spoken once or twice, but then life got busy. You lost momentum. And suddenly, it’s been months (or years) since you last shared your story on a stage.
Here’s the thing: speaking is a skill. It’s also a strategy. The more consistently you speak, the more confident you become, and the more visibility and opportunities come your way.
When you’re not speaking regularly, you’re not building the momentum that turns you into a known, trusted, and booked speaker.
The Good News? These Mistakes Are Fixable.
I say all this with love because I’ve been there. I’ve made these mistakes myself. And it’s exactly why I created the Path to Paid Speaking workshop series — to help women like you step into the spotlight with clarity, confidence, and a real strategy to start getting paid to speak.
